Furthermore, Gabby hopes to intertwine her expertise with dance and the human body offering additional conditioning classes specific to dancers to help them reach their full potential on stage in a safe and functional way.
Mat Pilates
Mat Pilates is a type of exercise that was developed by Joseph Pilates. It is a form of Pilates exercise that is performed on a mat on the floor, without the use of specialized equipment. It is a bodyweight based workout that focuses on building strength, increasing tone, improving flexibility, and enhancing body posture and alignment.
Participants will typically perform a series of movements that are focused on control and precision, allowing participants to develop a stronger connection with their body and improve their overall physical fitness.
Mat Pilates is a great option for those who:
Benefits of Pilates
Prevents Injuries
By balancing the muscles within the body, Pilates can help prevent injuries caused by muscles that are lengthened and weak or too tight and overworking.
Increases Energy
By focusing on breath, Pilates can improve cardiorespiratory capacity, which can stimulate feel-good hormones, oxygen flow and blood circulation.
Decreases Stress
By using breath and inward focus, Pilates can down-regulate the nervous system, which can help lower cortisol levels and decrease stress over time.
Decrease Back Pain
Pilates targets the deepest abdominal muscle (Transverse Abdominus) and the pelvic floor to both contract and release, which can help with back pain.
Benefits of Pilates
Improves Core Strength
Pilates focuses on consistently engaging the core in a safe and effective way, improving tone, strength, and function
Improves Posture
By bringing awareness to your alignment and strengthening neglected postural muscles, Pilates can help improve your posture and functionality in everyday life.
Improves Balance
By focusing on alignment and whole body exercises, Pilates can help improve balance and stability.
Enhances Sport & Dance Performance
Pilates targets small stabilizing muscles around the core that are normally overworked and weak, or not firing correctly. By gaining proper control of these muscles, this can improve dancers’ overall technique and stage performance. A lot of the time, dancers have extensive flexibility, but may struggle to execute particular tricks that may require increased strength and stability. For example, a dancer may have the flexibility to whack their leg to their face, but may struggle to hold it there. Consistent Pilates classes can help with this!
